TEAM VALOR INTERNATIONAL’S ANIMAL KINGDOM WINS 2011 DERBY AND DONATES TO RACE FOR EDUCATION

Monday, May 09, 2011

Long time supporter of The Race For Education, Team Valor International, led by Barry Irwin, raced past the front runners and down the stretch at Churchill Downs this past Saturday to win the 137th Kentucky Derby. As participants in The Race For Education’s Racehorse Nomination Program, two percent of the horses’ earnings (approximately $30,000) will benefit the scholarship organization, which funds scholarships and educational programs for young people with significant financial need.

ANIMAL KINGDOM is trained by Graham Motion and was ridden in the Derby by jockey John Valazquez. The victory is the first Derby win for Motion and provided a second chance for Velazquez, who was set to ride Uncle Mo before the horse was scratched due to a lingering stomach problem.

The Race For Education’s students, their parents and staff offer a huge congratulations and our deepest gratitude for Team Valor International’s dedication towards racing for education!
