WinStar Farm will again be hosting the 2011 Horse Farm Basketball Tournament, presented by TVG, to benefit The Race for Education and the Blue Grass Farms Charities. Twelve teams will compete in a double elimination tournament for the title, currently held by returning champions Three Chimneys Farm. This year’s tournament will also feature an exhibition game between Churchill Downs and Keeneland, prior to the final game on January 28th. “Everybody loves basketball and this is a great way for the farms too come out and have a lot of fun and support to great organizations”, states Elliott Walden, WinStar President & CEO. “We are delighted to hold this annual event”
Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Wednesday games are free for spectators. There will be a $5.00 admission fee for the exhibition game and finals on Friday, January 28, 2010.Spectators are welcome and encouraged to attend. Tournament play dates include: Saturday, January 22; Monday, January 24; Wednesday, January 26; Finals, Friday, January 28. Games will be played at WinStar Farm’s heated indoor basketball facilities on Pisgah Pike. All funds collected will benefit the Race for Education and Blue Grass Farms Charities.
The Race for Education and the Blue Grass Farms Charities provide critical services and support to families and individuals involved with the equine industry. Programming provided by both organizations is largely supported by the generous donations of individuals and private foundations.
Blue Grass Farms Charities offers support for individuals and their families working in the Thoroughbred industry through educational programs, as well as other critical services such as health care, substance abuse counseling, housing and utility assistance, funeral expenses, emergency food assistance, and chaplain outreach.
