Four 2010 Breeders' Cup Entries Racing For Education

Thursday, November 04, 2010

Four Breeders’ Cup contenders will be running for more than purses and the championship title —they’ll also be helping young people to obtain a college degree. As participants in The Race For Education’s Racehorse Nomination Program, a percentage of any earnings by Awesome Gem in the Marathon, Rough Sailing in the Juvenile Turf, and Central City and Silver Timber this weekend will go to the nonprofit, which funds scholarships and educational grants for young people with significant financial need.

“Education is empowering and it gives young people a choice. There is no better way to give back to the community” says Elisabeth Jensen, President and Executive Director of The Race For Education.

Awesome Gem, racing for education for many years is campaigned by West Point Thoroughbreds. Rough Sailing runs for Jack Smith III. Turf Sprint favorite Silver Timber is owned by Michael Dubb and High Grade Racing Stable. Central City is owned by Art Preston.

“It’s fantastic that the owners of these Breeder's Cup contestants believe strongly enough in what we are doing at RFE to donate a portion of their winnings to our cause,” states David Ingordo, The Race For Education Chairman. “This funding, especially in these tough economic times, is so significant to the young people we are helping to go to college.”
